Google and US power group AES will link for cloud-based innovations to boost clean energy uptake by corporate users, the two companies announced.

The 10-year partnership will use the web giant’s Google Cloud technology, and target markets in the US and Latin America to boost energy management through use of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics.

The partners claim by working together they can “improve the experience for corporate energy customers and to develop and implement solutions that enable broad adoption of clean energy”.

The link builds on an earlier deal that will see AES provide renewable power to a Google data centre in Chile.

Google is already the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy, with an executive recently describing a type of “arms race” among technology groups to procure green power.

Google in October said it will invest $150m in renewable energy projects in order to boost zero-carbon take-up in its supply chain.
